Box of Happies Review and Coupon September 2013 – Handmade Subscription Box

Box of Happies is a brand new subscription service that focuses on handcrafted items from small businesses. They kindly offered me a box to review and being a huge fan of small business, I was happy to accept!

The Cost: $28.99 a box, including shipping

The Coupon: 5PERCENT for 5% off entire Box of Happies purchase.

The Products: Each Box of Happies will include 3 – 5 handmade items from popular small shops. You can expect jewelry, lifestyle products, paper goods and more. This is not a typical subscription in that you can either purchase one box at a time, or pre-pay for any number of months you want – even choose which exact months you would like to receive a box!

I adore the collectible box and I already decided to use it to organize my makeup!

Peterson Designs Recipe Cards – Value $2 for 4 cards

I love to cook and bake. Usually, I end up writing new recipes on a piece of paper and shoving it in a drawer in my kitchen. This is a much more beautiful and organized way of sorting my recipes!

Mint Marbles Effiel Tower Necklace – Value $10, plus shipping
Flower Branch Earrings – Value $8, plus shipping

I am so in love with both pieces of jewelry! I feel so great wearing them and received a ton of compliments. These are both completely my style and I’ve been wearing them constantly. I’ve been browsing the Mint Marbles website and there are so many wonderful pieces. I want them all!

Leas Letters Post-it Note Holder – Value $4, plus shipping
All Glass Art Blue Glass Ring – Value $4

These are actually my daughter’s favorite items in the box. She took the notepad and pen from me and proceeded to draw on the post-its. This would have been great for me to use at work for my notes, but I am glad my daughter had fun with it though.

She also loved the ring. She loves how the blue sparkles on my hand and enjoys trying it on. I’ve also gotten a few compliments on the ring.

Thoughts: There are a lot of things I really like about this box. I am still gushing over all the jewelry I received and I’ve already decided on which recipes I want to commit to card. If every box was like this, I would be a very happy camper.

Umba Box Review and Coupon! September 2013 – Handmade Products Subscription Box

In line with my love of local foods, I also love handmade products because they tell a story and I like knowing that the piece that I own is not like anything else you will see. When the ladies at Umba Box offered me a box to review, I could not say yes any faster!

The Cost: $30 a month, including shipping

The Coupon: Use code OCTMAVEN for $5 off any prepaid subscription (new subscribers only). Expires 9/30

The Products: Each month, Umba Box will send 2-3 handmade piecing including: jewelry, accessories, home goods, bath products, or stationery.

Natasha J Collection Half Moon Necklace Patina – Value $20

I cannot decide if I like the coloring or the design of this necklace more. The mix of green ceramic with the gold give is a worn vintage feel which is very much my style. I normally would complain about the length of the necklace being too short for my taste, but I wore it anyway and it really was not bad at all!

Fox and Anchor Paper Black Box Coasters (Set of 4) – Value $8

It took me a moment to realize these were coasters. To be honest, it took me until I read the information card to truly appreciate their value. Each aspect of the coaster, including the inking was completely handmade. That is so impressive in my opinion!

Thoughts: I am so happy with this box, especially the necklace. I’ve already worn it out and received a few compliments. I feel great wearing it! I never would have expected to get something like coasters in a box, but now that I have them, I am happy to get them! I think considering that each piece was made by hand, this Umba Box was definitely worth the price tag.
