Birchbox Review and COUPON May 2014

birchbox review may

I am super late posting about Birchbox. I got this box about a week and a half ago… I’ve just been so busy with my food blog that I have been falling behind with my reviews!

birchbox review may

The Cost: $10

The Products: Birchbox sends 4 – 5 beauty and lifestyle samples and an occasional treat. Most of the products are high-end brands or newly emerging brands. You can buy full-size products in their shop with the points you accumulate from doing reviews of your samples.

The Concept: Birchbox was created as a way to help consumer test out new products without having to spend a lot of money on full-sized products you may not like.

Other Reviews: You can read my past Birchbox reviews here.

The COUPON: Use code BBSUBYEAR to get an annual subscription for only $99 (normally $110)

birchbox review may

Caudalie Overnight Detox Oil – Sample

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer - Retail Value $9

I have this primer from another subscription and I ended up really liking how it made my skin feel. It leaves a very soft, matte finish on your skin and is super light weight.

birchbox review may

Smarty Pants Vitamins – Sample

I’ve tried these vitamins several times in the past and they’ve been alright. I am not a huge fan of the flavor, but it is much better than taking a pill!

birchbox review may

COOLA Radical Recovery After-Sun Lotion – Retail Value $2.66

I love COOLA products and this after-sun lotions has great reviews. I am saving it for days we spend out in the sun at the park or the beach. I am really concerned about taking care of your skin when dealing with the sun, so this is a product that I know I will be buying more of in the future.

Pixi Beauty Shea Lip Balm - Retail Value $4

I’ve only tried a few Pixi products and while most of them are pretty good, this was nothing spectacular. I do like the color and it does feel nice on my lips, but I have a lot of other balms that I do like more.

Thoughts: This was a good box, but not my favorite. I am really happy to get the COOLA and the Smashbox primer.  What did you think of the May 2014 Birchbox?

Ipsy Review May 2014 Monthly Beauty Box

ipsy review may

Pacifica Mineral Eyeshadow Duo – Retail Value $10?  find anything on the website

I am completely making up a value here because I couldn’t see a value anywhere. This shadow is infused with coconut and has a very nice pigmentation according to swatches I’ve seen (I didn’t swatch it myself because I think I may give this to a friend instead since I have a ton of shadow already)

Olive Natural Beauty Rosemary Lip Balm – Retail Value $5.95

I am on lip balm overload and this will be given away, but I love the idea of a rosemary balm for summer.

Thoughts: This month was the perfect bag to help with preparing for the summer by providing extra hydrating products and essential SPF. I am really happy with my bag this month! What did you think about the May 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag?

angel beauty box review april Le’Angelique Styling Comb – Retail Value $9.99

Le’Angelique Wonder Curler – Retail Value $29.95

I am nervous about heated anything near my eyes, but I am too curious about how this works to not give it a try!

Thoughts: The total value of the box was great at just under $65. I liked a couple of the products, but I am always a little disappointed to see several products from one or two brands. Overall, it was a good box and I am happy with it.

Number 4™ Clarifying Shampoo – Retail Value $3.76

I love this this smells! Sample sizes are never enough for my to really try, so I use them on my daughter’s hair. Her hair felt really soft and styled very easily after using this.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel – Retail Value $6.68

I am obsessed with my eye brows and love to try out different brow products. I saw someone had the clear brow gel in their box a few months ago, so I’ve been waiting for the day it would show up in my box. I love the formula because it is not sticky, it doesn’t clump and is pretty odorless.

birchbox review april 2014 (7)

Color Club Art Duo Pens in White – Retail Value $10

I already have a white nail art striper pen, so I wasn’t too excited to try this at first, but it works so much better. The formula is great and does an awesome job at getting straight lines.

BijaBody Daily Body Serum – Retail Value $1.70

I use my body serum from From the Lab which I really like already, but I was excited to give this a try too. I love the smell!

birchbox review april 2014 (6)

KIND Healthy Grain Bars – Retail Value $0.79

I love KIND bars, so I was really happy to get a snack from them in my box! It was sweet and nutty, which I love. It isn’t much of a Springtime flavor, but I am not complaining!

Number 4™ Reconstructing Masque – Retail Value $2.84

This was not much for me to try, so I gifted this to a friend who said she would love to buy more if it weren’t for the price of the full-size bottle.

Thoughts: This box was not as excited for me as last month’s box which was pretty much perfect for me. I still liked a lot of the products and and happy overall.

Ipsy Review April 2014 Monthly Beauty Box

ipsy review april 2014

I was so excited to see my Ipsy Glam Bag at my door the other day. I heard it was going to be great, so I tried to stay spoiler free and I am really glad I did because I ended up being super surprised by the products I received!

Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide On Eye Pencil in Black – Retail Value $6.33

I’ve been using this line of eyeliner since college and I absolutely love it! This was another big win for me.

City Color White Gold Shadow & Highlight Mousse- Retail Value $3.99 (Full-Size!)

I love how shimmer this is and the formula is very creamy, but not too thick.

ipsy review april 2014

Mary Kay @ Play Jelly Lip Gloss in Berry Me – Retail Value $10 (Full-Size!)

I was surprised to see a Mary Kay product in the bag. I have not tried their lip glosses yet, so I am excited to test it out.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfolliant – Retail Value $9.75

I tend to get a lot of Dr Brandt products in my boxes, but I don’t mind because I love his products and think they are really effective.

ipsy review april 2014

Benefit High Beam – Retail Value $26

This was the bonus item I chose for this month. I thought it was going to be a sample, but was pleasantly surprised to see that it was a full-size product!

Thoughts: This was perhaps the best Ipsy Glam Bag I’ve received so far. I received two products from two of my favorite brands, plus everything else was great too. The only way the bag could have been better were if I also received a Rainbow Honey nail polish in the bag. The bag was valued at over $40 (not including the bonus item), so the price value is definitely there too.

Angel Beauty Box Review March 2014

angel beauty box review

As a mixed race person, I’ve always been interested in the subscription boxes for women of color. When I found out Angel Beauty Box was having their one-year anniversary and were sending March boxes for free, I had to snag one before they sold out (they ended up selling out soon after I subscribed).

angel beauty box

The Cost: $20 a month, college students can get boxes at $10 a month

The Products: Each Angel Beauty Box will have 5- 7 deluxe and full-size beauty and lifestyle products for women of color.

The Concept: Angel Beauty Box was created as a way for women of color to discover the best products available for their unique skin and hair types.

J.Cat Perfect Coat Nail Polish in Sober Up – Retail Value $2.99

I’ve tried different products from J. Cat before, but never their nail polish. I am really excited to give this a try.I am really in love with the color for Spring and Summer!

Nicka K Quad Eye Shadow in Sacramento – Retail Value $4.99

This eye shadow set is super bright! I would have used the pink and purple when I was in college, but I am not sure I can pull it off now. I think the dark blue and the purple might make a great night look.

angel beauty box review

Dr Miracles Double Deep Moisturizing Mask – Foil Sample

This sample will not be enough for me to really see how it works with my long, thick hair. I will be better off giving this to someone else.

angel beauty box review

Make Up Remover Cloth – Retail Value $1?

The make up remover does not have a brand name on it, so I am not sure about cost. It works just fine though.

Beauty Treats Darling Diamond Lip Gloss in Rich Raisin - Retail Value $4.99

This is a really pretty color, but it goes on sheer.

angel beauty box review

Nicka K Absolute Brightening Essence Mask Tissue - Retail Value $2.99

I tried one of these masks before and I loved it, I am really excited to give this a try again.

Thoughts: As my first Angel Beauty Box, I am on the fence with how I feel about it. Considering that I paid nothing for the box, the value is great, but at the $20 price point, it is a little lacking with a total retail value of just under $17. I do love the nail polish and face mask, but the hair mask and non-brand make up remover leave me less than impressed. I think I will need to try out another box to decide if I really like it.

Glossybox Review March 2014 Beauty Subscription Box

glossybox march review

I finally got my March 2014 Glossybox and I was so excited when I opened up the box. The first thing I noticed was a very heavy scent. I saw some of the spoilers for the box and already suspected what the smell was.

Sisley Paris Black Rose Cream Mask  .38 oz Retail Value $36

I was so excited to get this product. This was one of the products everyone is getting in their box and I am really happy about that because the full-size product is out of most people’s price range so it’s nice to be able to try something like this. I love the scent and my skin felt incredible after using it!

Nails Inc in Brook St – Retail Value $3

I love Nails Inc polish colors and their names. I still use my Baker St polish from the June box and this will be a nice addition to my collection!

glossybox march 2014 review

Etre Belle Cosmetics Liplift Peel  Retail Value $17.80 (Full-Size!)

I love this scrub! It is super exfoliating, but still really gentle on your lips. They get them baby soft and I am a little addicted to using this product now.

Bamboo Volume Plumping Strand Expand .85 fl oz Retail Value $4.65

I won’t be using this because my hair is already super thick, so this will be given away.

glossybox march 2014 review

Alex and Ani SCENT7 Soap Bar - Retail Value $14 (Full-size!)

The scent of this bar is really strong! Everyone seems to love this scent, but I am not a huge fan.

glossybox march 2014 review

Alex and Ani Swan Charm Bracelet in Russian Silver – Retail Value $28

This was a bonus item in the boxes and I am so in love with it. I have only taken it off for showers, otherwise it is on my wrist along with my Dogeared necklace from PopSugar.

Thoughts: This box was a total win for me. The value was over $100 and I love almost every single product. This is one of my favorite boxes from Glossybox so far. I wish I bought a second box for my mother because she fell in love with all the same products.

Wantable Beauty Box Review March 2014

wantable beauty box review (1)

One of my favorite subscription boxes for women is Wantable. The first box I tried from them was their beauty box and I was truly impressed with the products I received and many of the products have become staples in my beauty regime. I love how they now add your name to each box, it just adds to the personalized feeling. This box was kindly provided for a review.

wantable beauty box review (1)

My quote of the month

wantable beauty box review (1)

Here are my preferences I set for this month’s beauty box. I have a ton of lipstick around and I don’t normally use highlighters or bronzers. I was hoping for some good nail polish and a brow product.

wantable beauty box review (1)

The Cost: $36 a month, or $40 for a single box.

The Products: Wantable offers three categories: Beauty, Accessories and Intimates. The beauty box is full of full-size beauty products (and tools) based off your preferences.

The Concept: Wantable works as a way for you to get a fully personalized experience in discovering new beauty products from popular and emerging brands.

Liberty Republic Spellbound Nail Lacquer in Enchanted – Retail Value $14

Most subscribers got a Liberty Republic nail polish in their beauty boxes. This is a newish brand a completely new product line for them. I loved the entire collection of polishes they have, but I am especially happy to get Enchanted which is a deep teal which looks pretty green on your nails. The formula is really great, but the color is what really does it for me – I love it!

ncLA Bullion in a Bottle – Retail Value $16

I really like this polish a lot (and I am not mad at all that I got two polishes in my box – I think Wantable knows how much I love my polish!). The brush makes it look as though the polish will go on gloppy and be difficult to use, but it applies easily and is definitely a one-coat polish. I love all the different-colored glitter, it reminds me of Mardi Gras!

wantable beauty box review (1)

La Bella Donna Compressed Mineral Eye Shadow in Bronze – Retail Value $20

This is a really nice neutral shade for Spring. The formula is pretty matte without being drying which helps to prevent the dreaded eye crease.

Sorme Anti-Aging Cream - Sample

wantable beauty box review (1)

StarLooks Brow Shader 4 – Retail Value $21

In my opinion, your eye brows are what polishes your overall look and are the part that I obsess over constantly (I think it’s because I have uneven eyebrows and it drives me nuts!) I love this set because it comes with a highlighter and also has different shades to change the tone of your shadow and to tailor for your eyebrow colors. You can also use it as a brown smokey eye palette!

Thoughts: The total value of the box is $71 which is a really great value considering the cost of the box, so the value aspect is really there. I am also a fan of all the products that are included. I also felt they did pay attention to my profile and listened to my favorites.
