Vegan Conscious Box Review May 2014

conscious box reviews

I signed up for a deal on the three-month subscription to Conscious Box and this is my last box of that subscription. I was most excited to get this box because the company made a huge announcement that they were going to send larger samples – something a lot of people (including myself) have been asking for!

The Cost: $19.95 a month

The Products: Conscious Box has three boxes from which you may choose: Classic, Gluten-free and Vegan. Each box is filled with earth-friendly samples for beauty, health, lifestyle and food.

The Concept: Conscious Box believes that sometimes living eco-friendly can be difficult with a lot of different marketing and research telling us different things. Their box is meant to cut the guess work out of finding healthy and earth-friendly products.

 Vita Coco Pure Coconut Water

I love coconut water, my daughter prefers their flavored coconut water, so I was able to enjoy it on my own.

GoGo Squeez in Apple

This is one of my daughter’s favorite on-the-go snack so we were happy to see this.

conscious box reviews

Pura Vida Sprouted Flax

I love using ground flax as an egg replacer in my baking when I need a plant-based alternative. I know this will go to good use for me.

Mrs. May’s Trio Bars

This was tasty and flavorful, but it is was incredibly hard to chew (as in, almost break a tooth hard). I am thinking it may have been a bad batch.

MRM Vegan Bone Maximizer

Crystal Body Deodorant Towelettes

I love these towelettes because they are the perfect thing to toss in my purse for a quick refresher.

Flents Biodegradable Lens Wipes

This came at a great time because I lost my lens wipe for my camera, so this will tide me over until I can order a new one.

 Weleda Replenishing Shampoo & Conditioner

I’m never a fan of foil samples like this, but it will come in handy to wash my daughter’s hair on our beach trip.

 Traditional Medicinals Relaxation Teas

Via Nature Sensitive Care Lotion

BioBag 3 Gallon Bag

At first I was really confused as to what I was meant to do with it. It is a bag for compost, or is it just starting it is compostable? – turns out it is the later.

San Francisco Bay Gourmet Coffee

This was a really nice strong brew, I will definitely buy more of these

Spatone PurAbsorb Iron

I received this in other boxes and I still have not used them. I am afraid of how it may taste!

consciousbox reviews

 ECOVER Dishwasher Tablets

I’ve been searching for a new eco-friendly dishwashing tablet because the Honest Company tablets have not been working well for me. These did a really great job at getting my dishes clean and removing the cloudiness that was forming from the other tabs I was using.

CaCoCoSuperfood Drinking Chocolate

This stuff is phenomenal. I used it in a brownie recipe and it is beyond delicious.

Thoughts: The box is definitely changing and improving, but there are still a lot of small samples in the box which means is still not worth keeping a full-price subscription for me. I am definitely interested in seeing how the improvements progress and would certainly sign up again should another good deal for the box come up again. I loved a lot of the product samples (especially the chocolate!) so it is still a decent box to get to find a couple of new product samples. What did you think about the new Conscious Box?

Conscious Box Review March 2014 Vegan Box

conscious box review

I’ve been on a mini hiatus from the blog to catch up on things in my personal life, but now I am trying to get back on track, so hopefully I can get the next few reviews and giveaways done in a timely manner! Last month I signed up for the free three-month subscription to Conscious Box. The last time I tried their boxes was almost a year ago. I was not too impressed with my first box, but they continued to get better and their customer service was always good, so I was excited to restart a subscription.

I have a few of these wipes and I like to keep them in my purse for emergencies!

Traditional Medicines Organic Chamomile Tea

Bonelli Simply Sesame

I used this with some hummus chips and this made a delicious snack.

Alo Vella Wrinkless Cream

Via Nature Lotion

Derma E. Skin Care Solution Sample Kit

I have another sample like this from another box and love it. These aren’t really your typical foil samples because they are larger and you can get a few good uses. I liked this sample a lot.

conscious box review

Mighty Leaf Teas

I really love Mighty Leaf Teas, so I was glad to find these in the box! I’ve already enjoyed the mint tea last night before bed and it was so relaxing.

Vibrant Health Raw Green Food

I love using raw food meal in my smoothies and energy snacks, so this will be used.

conscious box review

Vintage Italia Pasta Chips

These were very tasty. My daughter and I gobbled them up immediately. They are crunchier than your average chip and there is a lot of depth to the flavor.

Thank You Card

This was really cute and I’ve already used it!

Thoughts: Like with my first box from Conscious Box, I am not too excited about the foil samples. I did not do values simply because I do not normally do values on foil samples. The value is not here for me and I hope that the next two boxes will be better. I love discovery and did discover new brands from the box, but I would prefer to have fewer, but larger samples per box. That being said, I did like a lot of the samples I did receive.

This has a wonderfully sheer tint to it. I love that it is vegan and gluten-free.

Multi-functional beauty items are always a win in my book! I was so intrigued by this product that I immediately put it on my cuticles and my lips. It feels like the Dr Lipp Nipple balm.

Thoughts: I really enjoyed this month’s theme and certainly got an idea of what they were aiming for. Popcorn and a bit of pampering is always fun. It would have been even better if they included a face mask! Still, I really liked everything in this box and was really excited to get full-sized products.

Honest Dish Soap – Retail Value $5.95

I love how this smells. I am all about the citrus scents and this Lemon Verbena is amazing. Plus, it cleans well and you don’t need a lot to get some nice suds going.

Honest Conditioning Mist Leave-in Hair Detangler & Fortifying Spray- Retail Value $5.95

I am on the hunt for a good detangler for my daughter. the Beauty Protector has been my favorite so far, but I want something a little more economical. I love the sweet orange vanilla scent for her, but as a detangler it did not work as well as I hoped. As a conditioning spray, I love it.

Honest 4-in-1 Laundry Pods – Retail Value $15.95

These were two repeat items. I loved how both worked so much that they are regulars in my bundle now.

I love the ingredients of each product and I love that they have a few signature scents for their products that are just my taste. I also really appreciated the free gift and I cannot wait to plant it with my daughter!

Honest Company Review November 2013

honest company review

A while back, I tried out the Honest Company trial box when they were offering it for free. I decided it was good enough to make me want to order a full-size box from  the Essentials Bundle. As you will see, I was pretty focused on on on two particular things.

The Cost: $35 a bundle for the Essentials Bundle. $39.95 for the Health & Wellness Bundle. $79.95 for the Diapers & Wipes Bundle.

The Products: The Honest Company focuses on all-natural, eco-friendly products for your baby, home and body. You can read my Honest Company reviews here.

Multi-Surface Cleaner in White Grapefruit

I love the smell of this stuff – I am obsessed with citrus scents and grapefruit ranks very high for me. As a cleaner, I was pretty impressed with how well it worked because it was able to remove some tough grease stains that I would normally need half an hour to work on.

honest company review

Honest Liquid Laundry Detergent

Honest Auto Dishwasher Gel

I like the laundry detergent, but with a large family like mine, it goes by so fast that it wouldn’t really make sense for us to permanently switch over to this brand for all the laundry. I may consider it for my cloth diapers though.

honest company review

Honest Dishwasher Pods

Honest 4 in 1 Laundry Pods

I’ve always been partial to pods because of their “Grab-and-Drop” convenience. Knowing they are safe for the environment is just the perfect little cherry on top.

Thoughts: I was really impressed with the box overall. I was expecting the full-size products to be much smaller, but this is definitely a reasonable family-size amount they give you which I appreciate. I love that the laundry products are safe enough to use on my cloth diapers and that everything is safe on the environment and our bodies.

What do you think about The Honest Company? What are your favorite Essentials products you recommend I try?

Vegan Presence Review November 2013

Vegan Presence review November

A few months ago, I signed up for a 3-month subscription which technically ended in October, but I was fortunate enough to have a reader mention my blog when they signed up for a 6-month subscription, so I was given another month free as a thank you. So to whoever it was that mentioned Subscription Maven as your referrer, THANK YOU because this is one of my favorite subscription boxes to get! …

Cotton Booty Review August 2013 – Kid’s Subscription Box

For a while, I resisted trying Cotton Booty because my daughter is mostly potty trained and only uses a diaper at night. Eventually, I noticed our night-time diapers were getting worn down quickly. I immediately took this as a sign to subscribe!

The Cost: $24.99 a month, including shipping

The Products: Cotton Booty sends out one cloth diaper, plus a few baby and toddler essentials. The theme this month is “In one end, out the other.”

Green Toys Inc. Plate – Value $6.50
Green Toys Inc Fork and Spoon – Value $1.50 for both

I love that these are recycles from milk jugs. We won’t use the spoon and fork, but the plate will come in handy!

bumGenius 4.0 Stay Dry All-in-One – Value $17.95
bumGenius Sample Detergent - Value $0.50

bumGenius is a great brand and you can never go wrong with them! I love the whole Cotton Babies line (bunGenius, Econobum and Flip), so this was very welcomed. I am on the fence about the detergent sample. On one hand, I love it because this is the detergent brand I use. On the other hand, I always get this sample for free when I order my detergent.

Thoughts: I loved the diaper. It is a very fun print and a trusted brand that I already love. As a whole, I am not terribly impressed by the subscription. based on this package alone. I plan on keeping the subscription because the September box is supposed to have a night diaper and I am intrigued as to what diaper they include!

Honest Co. Essentials Trial Pack Review – Home Subscription Box

I resisted trying Honest Co for many reason, but when they had their code to try a trial pack for free, I saw no reason to at least try them out and see what the products were like.

The Cost: $5.95 for a trial pack, $35.95 a month, thereafter

The Products: The Honest Company sends out natural home cleaning and personal care products

Honest Shampoo and Body Wash
Honest Laundry Detergent
Honest Face and Body Lotion

I used the laundry detergent immediately. I like that it is dye-free, but I was disappointed that the bottle was only enough for one load.

Honest Healing Balm
Honest Hand Soap

I do not usually use healing balm, but I think I will have to start!

The hand soap was great. I decided to add this to my regular bundle for the coming month.

Thoughts: I did not do a price breakdown because I already knew I was getting a great value since I did not pay anything for the pack. I decided to try out the regular Essentials Bundle to try out a few more products and see how I like each.

What do you think about The Honest Company? Which products do you recommend I try (I am most interested in cleaning products!)?
