IHeartMD Review February 2014 – HealthStyle Subscription Box

iheartmd review

One of the most popular goals for many people in the beginning of the year is to live a healthier lifestyle. A great way to do that is with paying more attention to your heart health. This is where IHeartMD comes in. It is a new subscription box that focuses on your cardio health. I was really happy when they kindly offered me a box to review because I am trying to get healthier as well.

The Products: IHeartMD sends 5 – 8 heart healthy snacks, plus drinks and wellness items. You also have access to a member’s area that has recipes, a place for you to submit questions to their on-staff cardiologist (did you know one of the co-owners is a cardiologist? I like that the product card gives you so much information about why they chose the product and how it pertains to a heart-healthy lifestyle.

Ghirardelli Intense Dark 72% Cacao Twilight Delight Squares

I have never been a dark chocolate person and these are seriously dark. They are better for you, so I will try to make an effort to go for darker chocolates.

Pearls Olives to Go!

I have been eating a lot of olives lately, so I am glad to know they are so heart-healthy. I also like that these have no added flavoring, so I can tailor the taste to what I am in the mood for that day.

Matt’s Munchies Premium Fruit Snack

These make a great sweet treat for my daughter and myself (when she lets me have one). I would never buy them on my own because of their cost, but it is always nice to find them in one of my boxes.

Mary’s Gone Crackers

I’ve had these before and love it! I had it with some heart-healthy homemade hummus and it was the perfect midday snack.

TeeChia Super Seeds Cereal in Cranberry Apple

I got this once before and I loved it! It’s really nice to get more.

Naked Wines $50 Gift Card

I still have a collection of unused Naked Wines gift cards. This is one of the most unpopular gift cards to get in a subscription box, but it makes an appearance so often.

iTrain $50 Gift Card

I also have a few iTrain gift cards on hand, but I have been considering trying it out.

Thoughts: I decided to not do a price breakdown because I already knew by looking at the box that the values without the gift cards was going to be well under the $30 you pay per month. The gift cards are a great addition for some people, but not for most. I think the true value of this type of subscription rests in the additional benefits you receive online such as the informative articles and ability to get a chance for a Q&A from a cardiologist. Which is a good thing considering that this box is about promoting a heart-healthy lifestyle.

I love the themed photo and matching postcard with every box. It makes it a real treat opening the box.

Conscious box is always packed full of different samples. I always think of this box as a sample smorgasbord!

Eco Nuts – Value $3.69
Selina Naturally Celtic Sea Salt – Value $5

I’ve been wanting to try Eco Nuts since I first started using cloth diapers on my daughter and learned about them. They are actual nuts that have super-cleaning powers and leave no nasty chemicals behind.

As a food-lover, I really enjoy discovering new types of salt, so this was a welcomed product in the box. I love that it is full-sized too!

Elan Veda All Sinus – Value $0.50
Ultima Replenisher in Lemonaide – Value $1
Good nature Organice St. John’s Wort Tea – Value $0.50

At first, I was not sure that the vial was – it took a bit of investigation before I realized it was not actually perfume.

I have quite a bit of tea in my collection now, but none with St John’s wort which has a ton of medicinal properties, so I was really happy to try it out.

Flavrz Drink Mix in Superfruit Sports and Fruit Punch Energy- Value $2.60 for 2

I’ve been getting a lot of Flavrz in my boxes and I just love them! They are the best summer treat for me and my daughter!

I am not a huge fan of vanilla protein drinks, but I will at least give this one a try. You never know!
I love that they included drops to relieve your eyes from staring at a computer. I feel as though I spending of my life in front of a computer screen these days!

I love reusable anything! I went a little crazy with the cloth items when I began to cloth diaper my daughter, so the bamboo sheet fits right in my kitchen!
I was a little perplexed by the wooden spoon, but I suppose it will come in handy when I give my daughter a nice cold treat this summer.

I thought this was interesting nice heard of fruit and vegetable washes before, but never meat! I already used the kitchen cleanser and the fruit wash. I am still a little wary of the meat cleanser though.

I’ve had this Skout before in the last box. I liked it, but would have still preferred something else in the box. At least another flavor.
I seem to be growing quite a large lip balm collection. I really like that this actually is supposed to make a good lipstick base to longer wear.

Mineral Hygenics Coupon
True Natural Coupon

I appreciate that Conscious Box does not consider this as a part of the value for the box.

Thoughts: Overall, this was a pretty decent box! I got about $30 worth of samples, a lot of them I was very excited to get and everything will definitely be used. After receiving Conscious Box for three months now, I decided that although the samples are smaller, I do really enjoy and appreciate the variety that I get.

Do you get Conscious Box? What version do you get? What did you think about my July box?

Healthy Surprise Review and Giveaway! July 2013 – Snack Subscription Box

Healthy Surprise was my very first snack subscription box and as such, holds a special place in my heart and my subscription box addition. I was thrilled when they sent me a Starter box to review and allowed me to host a giveaway.

The Cost: $39.99 a month, including shipping for the starter box. Larger subscriptions are $66 and $99 a month, including shipping

The Coupon: Use code HEALTHY10 for $10 off your first box!

The Products: Gluten-free, corn and soy-free full sized vegan snacks. Healthy Surprise scours the country for the healthiest snacks out there and picks out the tastiest ones available for us to try. Most of these snacks are not available in your local store, making the subscriptions that more valuable in terms of snack discovery.

The Healthy Surprise recipes are so great – I’ve tried almost every recipe they’ve sent out with my boxes. They also include a ton of great nutrition information! This recipe is for Jicama chips. Jicama is a lot like a potato, but packed with a lot more nutritional value. When I was living with my fiancee in London, we had two flatmates from Gahana who always made Jicama chips, I wonder how well this recipe compares!

I love opening the box and seeing a ton of new snacks to munch on for the week. These snacks are to good, I really think I should invest in the Large Box!

Kur Organics Delights in Coconut Cream, Dark Chocolate Mint and Brownie – Value $3

These treats actually have a date base, with only a few extra ingredients to create each individual flavor. They are a very healthy way to indulge. My favorite was the Coconut Cream.

Happy Hemp Toasted Hemp Seeds – Value $6
Olomomo Mango Chipotle Almonds – Value $3.75
Matt’s Munchies in Mango Acai – Value $2.75

I was not all that sure how to use the Happy Hemp at first but soon realized it made a great addition to my salads.

The Almonds were a delicious surprise and I cannot wait to buy more. It goes really well as a snack with my wine and I love the label in the back.

I feel good that love is an ingredient in these almonds. I can really taste it too.

Rawma Bar in Sesame Mango – Value $2
Oskri Dates Walnuts Bar – Value $2
MacroLife Naturals in Miracle Reds – Value $3.75

The Rawma Bar was not my favorite. I love sesame and mango, but I don’t think they work too well together. I did really enjoy the Miracle Reds bar and might invest in more, especially after going on their website and learning about the antioxidant and probiotic properties.

Sea Snax in Chipotle – Value $1.75
Smooch in Strawberry, Blueberry and Banana – Value $2.25

I love Sea Snax! I was first introduced to the company from my very first Healthy Surprise box. After that, I went online and bought a bulk variety pack. I only recently ran out and need to order more. The Smooch was nice. These are usually given to my daughter, but I took a few tastes. The chia seeds made a very interesting texture, but I liked it!

Beanfields Bean and Rice Chips in Nacho – Value $2
California Snax Kale Italiano Pizza Flavored Kale – Value $2.75

I’ve tried the Beanfields chips before and love it. The kale chips were a nice change – I don’t think I’ve ever had pizza flavored kale before. My daughter and I could not get enough!

Thoughts: As always, Healthy Surprise really impressed me with delicious snacks that I love. I love that they always open me to new brands and taste experiences while still keeping everything healthy and guilt-free!

Bulu Box Weight Loss – May 2013 Review

I’ve been searching around for a good fitness/weight loss centered subscription box for a while when I stumbled across Bulu Box who offered a general fitness box as well as a weight loss box. Both Bulu boxes are $10 a month, so I thought it would be a safe investment to try out for the first time. Plus, if you follow them on twitter, they will give you a coupon code for your first box free!

The Cost: $10 a month, including shipping

The Products: Bulu sends out between 4 – 5 fitness supplement samples each month.

They sent information about the company and information about the products including prices for full-sized versions you can find at their store. On the other side of the product guide is a little journal for you to track how you feel before and after taking each sample which is pretty neat.

Beauty Bursts which contains Collagen Type 1&3 to help rebuild skin, Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate the skin and Vitamin C for collagen enhancing. They only gave you two chews, so it might not be enough to really feel a difference.

Fit ‘n Crisp Promax vanilla crispy treat – I am really excited to try this tomorrow as my mid-morning snack at work. It is gluten-free and high in protein to keep me fuller for longer.

Gym Pact $5 gift card

I never heard of Gym Pact before, but looking into it, I think it is a great fit for the Bulu weight loss box. Using this would definitely motivate me to go to the gym more often!

Thoughts: Overall, I am pleased with the box, but a little underwhelmed by the small samples. I do wish the samples were a little bigger so I could get a better idea of how I feel about each brand.

Have you signed up for Bulu Box? What do you think of this subscription?
