Alice and Radiant Foods Kale Crunch - Retail Value $5.99

Kale chips are my favorite. I was so excited to see these that I ripped open the bag almost right away.

Inka Crops Plantain Chips – Retail Value $2

I love these chips! They are tasty and much more filling than regular chips.

Enjoy Life Plentils – Retail Value $3.99

I couldn’t quite place the taste of these chips, but they are really addictive.

Lemon Pie Coco-Roons – Retail Value $7.99

I liked these lemon macaroons, but it kind of tasted like they were heavy-handed with lemon extract. I would have liked to have abit more of a fresher lemon taste to them.

Farmer’s Crate Mango Thins – Retail Value $3.99

These made a great office snack. I loved how thin and crispy the mango was. It had a bit of tartness which was fantastic.

The One Bar in Apple – Retail Value $1

Peter Rabbit Organics Strawberry and Banana – Retail Value $1.44

My daughter’s favorite snack to get. She was thrilled to see this in the box.

Olomomo Cherry Vanilla Dream Almonds – Retail Value $2.50

I am obsessed with these almonds. I need to figure out how they get them so tasty.

Taza Mexican Chocolate – Retail Value $5

This makes excellent hot chocolate! I will probably save this for a rainy day.

Enjoy Life Seed and Fruit Mountain Mambo – Retail Value $1.33

I seem to get this snack in my box every time I get Healthy Surprise. I don’t mind because I love the salty dried fruit and nut mix!

Lady Jane Toasted Hemp Seeds - Retail Value $2.89

Hemp seeds are a crunchy fun snack. These were good, but the outer skin kept getting stuck in my teeth. Out of the different hemp seed brands I’ve tried, it’s not my favorite.

Thoughts: I love the snacks I get in my Healthy Surprise box, but I always feel as though the full price of the box is a little inflated, so whenever you can get a deal on the box, it is great!

Healthy Surprise Review and Giveaway! July 2013 – Snack Subscription Box

Healthy Surprise was my very first snack subscription box and as such, holds a special place in my heart and my subscription box addition. I was thrilled when they sent me a Starter box to review and allowed me to host a giveaway.

The Cost: $39.99 a month, including shipping for the starter box. Larger subscriptions are $66 and $99 a month, including shipping

The Coupon: Use code HEALTHY10 for $10 off your first box!

The Products: Gluten-free, corn and soy-free full sized vegan snacks. Healthy Surprise scours the country for the healthiest snacks out there and picks out the tastiest ones available for us to try. Most of these snacks are not available in your local store, making the subscriptions that more valuable in terms of snack discovery.

The Healthy Surprise recipes are so great – I’ve tried almost every recipe they’ve sent out with my boxes. They also include a ton of great nutrition information! This recipe is for Jicama chips. Jicama is a lot like a potato, but packed with a lot more nutritional value. When I was living with my fiancee in London, we had two flatmates from Gahana who always made Jicama chips, I wonder how well this recipe compares!

I love opening the box and seeing a ton of new snacks to munch on for the week. These snacks are to good, I really think I should invest in the Large Box!

Kur Organics Delights in Coconut Cream, Dark Chocolate Mint and Brownie – Value $3

These treats actually have a date base, with only a few extra ingredients to create each individual flavor. They are a very healthy way to indulge. My favorite was the Coconut Cream.

Happy Hemp Toasted Hemp Seeds – Value $6
Olomomo Mango Chipotle Almonds – Value $3.75
Matt’s Munchies in Mango Acai – Value $2.75

I was not all that sure how to use the Happy Hemp at first but soon realized it made a great addition to my salads.

The Almonds were a delicious surprise and I cannot wait to buy more. It goes really well as a snack with my wine and I love the label in the back.

I feel good that love is an ingredient in these almonds. I can really taste it too.

Rawma Bar in Sesame Mango – Value $2
Oskri Dates Walnuts Bar – Value $2
MacroLife Naturals in Miracle Reds – Value $3.75

The Rawma Bar was not my favorite. I love sesame and mango, but I don’t think they work too well together. I did really enjoy the Miracle Reds bar and might invest in more, especially after going on their website and learning about the antioxidant and probiotic properties.

Sea Snax in Chipotle – Value $1.75
Smooch in Strawberry, Blueberry and Banana – Value $2.25

I love Sea Snax! I was first introduced to the company from my very first Healthy Surprise box. After that, I went online and bought a bulk variety pack. I only recently ran out and need to order more. The Smooch was nice. These are usually given to my daughter, but I took a few tastes. The chia seeds made a very interesting texture, but I liked it!

Beanfields Bean and Rice Chips in Nacho – Value $2
California Snax Kale Italiano Pizza Flavored Kale – Value $2.75

I’ve tried the Beanfields chips before and love it. The kale chips were a nice change – I don’t think I’ve ever had pizza flavored kale before. My daughter and I could not get enough!

Thoughts: As always, Healthy Surprise really impressed me with delicious snacks that I love. I love that they always open me to new brands and taste experiences while still keeping everything healthy and guilt-free!

What did you think of this box? What is your favorite snack subscription?

Healthy Surprise May 2013 Review! Food/Snack Subscription Box

Healthy Surprise is hands-down one of my favorite healthy snack subscription boxes. I’ve been an on nd off subscriber for a while now and they always manage to impress me with new and addictive snacks.

I love how they utilize every inch of the box.

The top of the box gives you instructions on how to use your Healthy Surprise box to create your own herb garden. I have several leftover herb seeds from last year, so I might try this out with now just this box, but some of the other subscription boxes I have.

With every Healthy Surprise box, they always give you some bit of useful information and a recipe. I love that extra touch they  put in their boxes,

Crunchies in Mango – $1
Fruit.0 in Mango, Pear and Pineapple – $2.50
Home Free Mini Crunchy Vanilla Cookies – $1

My daughter loved all of these – she ate the mangoes all on her own!

Just Pure Foods in Sesame Dijon Zucchini Chips – $6.99
Live Smart Raw Bar in Chocolate Suicide – $2.99
Journey Bar in Sesame Ginger – $1.99

I really liked the Raw Bar, but the Sesame Ginger had a weird peanut butter undertone that I did not like. My sister loved it and couldn’t taste the ginger at all.

Bare Fruit Apple Chips in Granny Smith – $1.50
SunBiotics Original Almonds – $3.99
TAZA Chocolate Mexicano – $4.50

I am going to buy these almonds in bulk! They were amazing! Plus, they have added probiotics, making them extra good for you. I wanted to make hot chocolate with the TAZA, but my sister and daughter had other plans and ate one disc plain.

Freshly Wild Onion Joy in Original – $4.99

I loved these and they will be the topping for my salad for tomorrow!

Verdict: Everything was amazing and I was able to share freely with my daughter without worrying about what was in it. Everything was vegan, gluten free and all-natural. There were four of us who opened the box together and after taking the pictures, we collectively ate pretty much everything in the box! This is actually why I end up cancelling – the snacks are just so good, we eat them right away and it just leaves me wanting to order another box right away!

If you want to order a Healthy Surprise box, you can get $20 off any size box through Plum District.
