Madison Reed Review – Catania Brown

madison reed review

After I noted in my first Madison Reed review that I did not see the results I was expecting because I ran out of hair dye since I have super thick hair, a representative from the company offered me a chance to get another kit to finish my hair coloring.

The Cost: $24.95 for a subscription or $29.95 for one kit

The Products: In each Madison Reed kit you will get hair dye, gloves, cap, barrier cream, cleaning wipes, and shampoo and conditioner. You will also get detailed instruction on how professionally dye your hair at home.

The Concept: Madison Reed believes every woman should have hair as beautiful as they are without having to pay exuberant salon prices.

This is my hair before. (Apologies for the bad photo). As you can see, it is pretty dark in color. I wanted to lighten it up for a rich brown and the Catania Brown really seemed to look nice with different skin tones and looked as though it would really show off my natural highlights.

You have access to the hair consultants who can walk you through hair color choice. The first time I tried Madison Reed, I just bought the hair dye on my own, but this time, I decided to talk to a consultant. We spoke via email and I told her what my issue was the last time I tried Madison Reed and the results I wanted. We went over the hair color I have naturally and how light I wanted to get. I also sent her a picture of my hair and she was able to provide me with a few suggestions for color, plus tips on making sure I get the results I wanted.

I love that the hair dye kit box has instructions with photos to show you the best way to get even color throughout your hair.

With this dye, although I technically already dyed my hair, I decided to keep the dye in for the full 35 minutes to compensate for not getting the results I expected before.

Thoughts: I was really happy with the results of my Madison Reed hair dye kit. You cannot see in the photo, but it really brought out my highlights and it is such a fun color to have. I feel as though the color brightens up my face and creates a whole new look without being too drastic.

Madison Reed Hair Color Subscription Box Review

Madison Reed is a new subscription service that delivers salon-quality hair color to you each month. I used to dye my hair all the time, but stopped when I had my daughter. I’ve been dying for a change, so when the company kindly offered me a box to review, I had to say yes!

The Cost: $24.95 per box

The Products: Each month you will receive:

  • Radiant Cream Color & Conditioning Color Activator
  • Nourishing Color Enhancing Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Barrier Cream
  • 2 Pair Professional-Grade Gloves
  • Cap
  • Cleansing Wipes

Madison Reed also allows you to have a flexible subscription time. You can choose to get your box delivered anytime between 4 – 10 weeks depending on how often you need to recolor or touch up your hair. They also have an option to add in extra hair color if your hair is long or thick.

I decided to get Milano Brown and despite having both long and thick hair, I just got the regular box without the add-on hair color.

Everything comes in this sturdy box in its own labelled compartment and attached instructions for easy application for first-timers.

Here is a close-up of some of the instructions. I used to spread out the hair color any which way and hope for the best. I love being able to see how it is actually supposed to be done. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow.

I love the presentation of this box. Everything is clearly labeled in its own compartment.

Thoughts: I loved the ease of the application and everything smelled incredible! I felt great using the hair dye because it was ammonia, paraben, PPD and resorcinal free. As I mentioned previously, I have long, thick hair (it’s not as nice as it may sound!) and I regretted opting for just the regular box without the extra coloring add-on because I ended up needing it. My plan was to do before and after shots, but because I didn’t have enough color, my hair did not lighten as much as I would have liked. My highlights did turn a beautiful shade of brown, but there is no real noticeable difference. I will be trying Madison Reed  again, except with the right amount of hair dye and I will be sure to do another review with my results.

New Subscription Box Alert! Madison Reed – Hair Coloring Subscription Service

When I was younger, I would dye my hair every  chance I could get. Although I haven’t dyed my hair in years, I have been thinking about starting again.

The Cost: $24.95 for a subscription (flexible delivery time) or $29.95 for a one-time box.

The Products: In each Madison Reed box, you will receive:

  • Radiant Cream Color & Conditioning Color Activator
  • Nourishing Color Enhancing Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Barrier Cream
  • 2 Pair Professional-Grade Gloves
  • Cap
  • Cleansing Wipes

What I love about their dyes is that they are, ammonia free. resorcinol free, PPD free, and paraben free. Their dyes also have a ton of nutrients for your hair such as argan oil, keratin, ginseng root, and has UV protection. They also recommend colors for you based on your current color and skin tones which is great because I’ve been wanting to go to a light brown, but did not know what color would go best with my skin tone.
