julep maven review may

I almost forgot to make my selections for the May box, so I was really happy when I got to make changes in time because there were so many nice colors in the Fresh Twist Collection.

Plie Wand – Retail Value $25

This wand is meant to help make it more comfortable to polish your nails on both hands for a more professional and controlled manicure. I tried it once and it took a while to figure out the best way to hold it for polishing with my non-dominant hand and it was a lot easier. I love that they included brushes to use on other polishes, but the bristles look and feel very plastic-y and many of the bristles were already bent out of shape.

Bess (Mystery Polish Add-on) – Retail Value $14

I was a little disappointed to see that this was my mystery color because it is strikingly close in color to Jeanna.

Laree (Add-on) – Retail Value $14

I chose this as an add-on because the color is beautiful, and looks even better on. I’ve already used it for my manicure and pedicure and love it.

Paulette - Retail Value $14

This is not as shimmery as I thought it would be, but it is still very pretty and really nice for Spring.

Jeanne – Retail Value $14

I love the cool blue tone – it reminds me of a bright Spring sky.

Thoughts: When I first heard about the Plie wand, I did not really know if it was all it was hyped up to be, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. The colors this month were also really great and perfect for the weather.

Julep Maven Review April 2014

julep maven vivid collection

I was really excited about this collection from Julep Maven, but I am on nail polish overload (seems impossible, I know), so I decided to choose one profile. The It Girl box in particular had really great colors, so I decided to go with this box and do the Felicia add-on.

The Products: Each month, Julep curates an exclusive collection of polishes and beauty products. And creates a box for each of their style profiles.

Bailey – Retail Value $14

I can’t get enough blues. It is one of my favorite colors and a good blue always reminds me ever so slightly of Doctor Who.

Maren – Retail Value $14

I am not a huge pink fan, but I adore this color with the blue sheen added to it!

Flora – Retail Value $14

This color is even prettier in person, I can’t stop looking at it on my nails!

julep maven review

Felicia – Retail Value $14

I got this add-on because I was intrigued by the color combination. At first I thought it would not look great on, but it does not look that bad.

Thoughts: I really liked every color in the collection this month, but I am particularly happy with this box and am glad that I chose it. These are great colors to start off the Spring season!

Julep Maven The Dramatic Collection February 2014

julep maven dramatic collection february 2014

I was so excited to see The Dramatic Collection from Julep Maven. I really wanted to get the entire collection, but I was talked down from it when I was shown my entire collection of unused nail polish. Oops! Instead, I opted to get the Boho Glam box with an add-on

Julep Eye Sheen in Pale Nude Shimmer – Retail Value $18

I was not sure what to expect with this liquid shadow. I love the coverage, but the consistency does take getting used to when you apply.

Cameron Stardust Finish – Retail Value $14

I am so in love with this color and I love the matte glitter. This is my new favorite nail polish right now !

Rooney – Retail Value $14

I was not too excited about this color, but it is nice to have in my collection just in case!

Love (Polish Extra) – Retail Value $14

Everyone who received a Maven box this month also got this polish in their box as a Valentine’s Day gift from the company. I thought it was such a cute tough and I really love the color!

julep maven dramatic collection february 2014

Glam Roc Stardust Finish – Retail Value $14 (add-on)

What I love about this color is that it reminds me of photos of outer space which appeals to my inner space-geek. The polish goes on very thick and you can almost get away with one coat of polish.

julep maven dramatic collection february 2014

Here are swatches of each color: Love, Rooney, Glam Roc, Cameron

Thoughts: Again, I regret not getting the entire collection, but I did get the two Stardust finishes that I wanted, so I am still pleased overall. Each month, I am more and more impressed with Julep’s products and they have really improved their formulas from last year tremendously.

Julep Maven Essential Cuticle Oil – Retail Value $18

I already have this cuticle oil, but you really can never have enough!

Nail Buffers – Retail Value $4?

I think these were an extra item? I couldn’t find any info on them anywhere.

julep maven boudoir collection january

Vanish Cuticle Softener & Remover – Retail Value $18

I tried this last night and it was really interesting. When I was pushing back my cuticles, the formula turned into this almost solid sticky form which scared me a split second because I thought it was my cuticle skin coming off!

Ta Da! Quick Dry Drops – Retail Value $14

I’ve been wanting to try these Quick Dry drops for ages now. I am thrilled to finally be able to have it in my collection. So far, it does it’s job pretty well, but I only tried it on the silk finish which tends to dry faster than the creme polishes.

julep maven boudoir collection january

Hope - Stark white satin

I am not a fan of my white Julep polishes because they tend to dry super slow. Since this is a satin finish, I am hoping it will dry faster, especially with the drops.

Farrah - Lilac silk

This color is so pretty on your nails! I am wearing it now and I cannot get over how much I love it!

Annemarie - Warm cocoa crème

This is not my favorite color. I am not the biggest fan of brown polish, but I am sure I can find some nail art I can attempt using this color.

julep maven boudoir collection january

Hannah - Sage crème

I like some green colors, and I think this could potentially be a nice Spring color, but again, it is not my favorite.

Mae - Soft lavender satin

I love Mae. I did a swatch of the color and I can’t wait to try it  out later on my nails.

Noelle - Sandy beach silk

The finish is what saved this color. It isn’t something I would ever normally wear, but because of the finish, it makes it interesting enough to try out.

julep maven boudoir collection january

Mona - Storm cloud grey crème

I love my grey colors. I wear a lot of grey clothing, makeup and polish and have a running joke that I live my life in greyscale so this is right up my alley.

Abigail - Light peony pink silk

This is another favorite. I am pairing it with Farrah and they make such a sweet romantic duo!

Margot - Old Hollywood gold shimmer

I can’t say enough good things about this color. I love the vibrant gold and shimmer. It really is very glamorous!

Thoughts: This is not my favorite collection and a part of me wishes I did not get the whole collection and instead opted for only certain colors, plus the nail treatments. I do look forward for receiving the Resort Collection which I am sure will make up for some of the shades that were not my style here. The colors I did like in the collection I ended up adoring once I saw them in person!

SquareHue Review The Passport Collection: London January 2014

square hue review the passport collection london

I absolutely love that Square Hue is doing a themed series called The Passport Collection. Last month the theme was New York and now for January 2014, we are in London! My guesses were a grey/blue, beige and possibly purple or another red. I was really far off!

square hue review the passport collection london

The Cost: $19.99 a month, including shipping

The Products: Each month you will receive three exclusive nail polish colors based on a theme. Square Hue also donates a portion of each subscription to a new cause. You can read my Square Hue reviews here.

square hue review the passport collection london

Buckingham –  High Gloss Creme

This is a beautiful rose-red. It’s a very romantic shade and the formula is thicker and dries fairly quickly.

square hue review the passport collection london

Westminster – High Gloss Creme

Westminster is a nice creamy off-white. it has a delicate yellow tint to it and I think it would go great under the Broadway shade from last month.

square hue review the passport collection london

West End – Shimmer

This blue is beautiful in person and have the lightest hint of purple. When you wear it, the shimmer is not very apparent. While I adore the color, the formula is not my favorite because it goes on a little watery compared to the other colors.

Thoughts: The colors chosen work very well together and are obviously a reference to the Union Flag. I really love the colors a lot and am very happy they are in my collection, but I cannot help but feel as though they could have been a little more creative in the color options. Or I may still be sad that I did not get my blue/grey shade!

I can’t find these on their website, so this cost is an estimation. I love blotting papers and they always seem to “go missing” when I get them. I hope I will be able to keep these to try out!

I love this hand cream so much. I threw this in my purse immediately!

Julep Lip Gloss in Timeless – Retail Value $20

Ever since the November selection window I’ve been thinking about trying the Julep lip gloss. I like sheer color, but the gloss is a little too thick and sticky for me. I will stick with my Juice Beauty gloss.

I live off my matte face primers and will use them on their own when I don’t have time to do a full makeup look to keep the oil at bay.

Alaina - Driftwood taupe crème

This color is so soft and sophisticated. It makes a nice neutral office color.

Brenda - Blizzard white microglitter

I used this polish right away. I tried it as a top coat and one its own. It works both ways!

Aviva –  Purple with silver full coverage holographic glitter

What I like about Aviva is that it is so festive for Christmas and New Years. I am wearing it now and I can’t stop admiring all the sparkles.

julep maven naughty and nice mystery box review

Joanna – Lilac frost

This is such a pretty color and fits my personality very well.

Nellie - Pink fuschia crème

This isn’t much of a holiday color, but I still like it!

America - Sterling silver stars with shiny red and royal blue glitter

I really wanted this polish for a while now. I am so excited to have it in my collection!

Thoughts: Out of all the mystery boxes I’ve tried, this is by far my favorite. I love the selection of beauty products and the polish colors are 100% my style. The total value of this box was about $185 making it the highest valued mystery box I’ve gotten so far! My only regret is not getting the mystery add-on! What did you get in your Julep Naughty and Nice Mystery Box?

Fifth Avenue – High Gloss Creme

I love the creamy red. It is such a classic color and the formula is very impressive! It is fast-drying and is almost a one-coater. This is such a great Christmas color.

Square Hue Review The Passport Collection New York

Broadway – Sheer Pearl

At first, I was not too thrilled to see this polish in the box. I thought it was just a pearly yellow which didn’t really scream New York or holiday to me, but the color is actually very sheer and has a beautiful pearl sheen. You can use it on it’s own with three or four coats for a more neutral manicure or use it as a top coat.

Square Hue Review The Passport Collection New York

Time Square – Creme Holographic

I’ve always wanted a cream holographic (I don’t have any), so I was thrilled to see this in the box. Like the other colors, I love the fast-drying formula and I got complete coverage with two coats.

Thoughts: I am really happy with my box and think it is really great for the price. You get a lot of polish in each bottle and I am really in love with their formula. I can’t wait to see what is in the London box!
