Fortune Cookie Soap Box Review Summer 2014

fortune cookie soap

If you haven’t noticed, I am very behind on reviews. I received my Summer Fortune Cookie Soap Box earlier this month and it is just as good as every other box they send. I cannot wait for them to start a monthly box (rumor is that it is in the works!) The summer theme was Candy Aisle, inspired by the board game Candy Land!

The Cost: $19.95

Sweet Dreamsicle Wax Tart

I don’t have anything to use the wax tart on (but I just ordered a Scenty warmer, so I should have one soon!). The smell of the dreamsicle is so intoxicating though, I am almost tempted to lick it !

Rock Your Socks Off Solid Sugar Scrub

Again, this smells incredible. It’s like every grape candy you’ve ever had amplified. I love how exfoliating it is too. It lasts for a few showers which is great.

Lick Your Lips Fortune Cookie Soap

This reminds me a bit of mint ice cream, which I think is what they were going for when they made it. I would have liked the scent to be a bit more creamy.

Lollipop Your Cherry OCD Hand Sanitizer

This smells like a cherry Blow Pop. It’s fantastic.

The Sweet Spot Sparkle Mist

This is like a slightly tropical fruit salad. It’s very yummy. I was a little worried about the glitter, but it is not as intense as I originally though.

Lemon Drop It Like It’s Hot Microdermabrasion Scrub

I love citrus scents like this! I’ve been pairing it with my lemon-y Juice Beauty moisturizer.

Captains Buried Booty Whipped Cream

This smells like Captain Crunch cereal, only much better. I love their whipped creams and will probably get this in full-size along with a few other scents.

Blow Me Lip Scrub

This smells like that really hard bubble gum you used to get by the handful in school. You know, the one they included in the box (pictured with the product card)  I adore it.

Thoughts: This box was super sweet and I loved how they created a whole experience by adding some candy with it. I was delighted opening the box and it left a lasting happy feeling that I always get with my FCS boxes. It remains my top favorite box to get each quarter. The Goods Native Nectar Body Wash

This scent is so delicate. It took me a while to register anything but a soft sweetness to it. The scent is coconut, but I do detect a very faint floral scent to it as well. It’s amazing.

The Goods Afternoon Delight OCD Hand Sanitizer

This scent reminds me of summertime as a young child. It is sweet, fruit, fresh and very fun. You can’t tell in the photo, but the solution has a little sparkle to it.

The Evils Make It Rain Whipped Cream

It is a musky citrus scent and it actually makes me wish for some spring shower. I love how soft their whipped creams make my hands feel.

The Goods Marshmallow Dreams Cuticle Butter

There is a distinct nuttiness to this, which I think is coming from the sage and basil mix. I love this scent. A part of me wishes I could eat it. I am using the cuticle butter now and I love how it feels rubbing it on. It makes my skin feel instantly softer and smoother.

The Evils Me So Thorny Steam Me Up Scotty!

This reminds me of a yoga studio with the patchouli  and sandalwood. I love their shower steamers because they really fill up the room with the scent and makes for great aromatherapy.

The Evils The Bloom Bloom Room Bath Fizzy

This is super floral-scented, but in the best way possible. I feel like I am sticking me head in a garden.

The Evils Forbidden Fruit Fortune Cookie Soap

Two words: lemon blueberry. This soap smells incredible. I have a few Fortune Cookie soaps and they are great. They do break easily, so I would recommend getting their soap saver which also doubles as an exfoliator.

The Evils Venus Fly Trap Perfume Oil

This is floral, musky with a hint of citrus. I absolutely love it, but more as a summer scent than a spring one.

Thoughts: As usual, I am delighted with my Spring 2014 Fortune Cookie Soap Box. Everything smells incredible and the quality is amazing. The live launch party to release the entire collection for the public is tonight at 6pm CST, so check out their Facebook page because they hold quizzes and giveaways and discounts!

Fortune Cookie Soap Box Review Winter 2013

fortune cookie soap box review

Fortune Cookie Soap is one of my favorite indie companies for soap and bath products. I learned about them a few months ago and signed up for their quarterly subscription box in time for their summer box. When I found out the Winter 2013 box was themed Nightmare Before Christmas, I was so happy because that is one of my favorite movies!

Sandy Claws Exfoliating Body Butter – Retail Value $2

Sally Fortune Cookie Soap – Retail Value $3.79

Sandy Claws is a chocolate and chai scent and is very true to its scent. I never used a solid exfoliating body butter before and tried using it dry. Ouch! If you haven’t used it yet, you need to wet the bar first and let the body butter air dry on your skin.

The Sally scent is supposed to smell like “Fresh breezes fluttering white cotton, dry cracking leaves, held together by twine.” To me, it smells like the Irish Springs soap my grandmother buys. Not my favorite scent.

Jack Bath Fizzy – Retail Value $2

Lock, Shock, and Barrel Bath Melt – Retail Value $3.66

The Jack fizzy smells like “notes of iced lemon and airy menthol, warmed by woodland moss and smashed cranberries.” I could really smell the lemon and cranberries. I absolutely loved the scent a lot!

I got Lock – I am not sure if every subscriber got a different character out of the trio, but they all smell the same. “Frosted woods of pine and spruce, warmed with hints of spice.”

Halloween Town Body Butter – Retail Value $3

Zero Dry Shampoo – Retail Value $1.50

Halloween Town smells like sweet bubble gum and I really like it a lot. They have scents for each of the towns we see in the woods. I would love to get the whole collection!

I never used dry shampoo before, but I am super excited to test it out. The scent is “Ghostly billows of sweet peppermint, with just the faintest whisper of pumpkin.” I haven’t used it yet, but can certainly smell the peppermint, I can’t wait to see if the pumpkin notes are more present upon use!

What’s This? Roll on Perfume – Retail Value $4

Oogie Boogie Hand Sanitizer – Retail Value $1.50

This scent has been eluding me for a while. It is very inviting, but so hard for me to quite put my finger on it. As you might be able to tell from the name, it is a mystery scent. If you get it right, you can get a $50 Fortune Cookie Soap Gift Card!

I love this Oogie Boogie OCD Hand Sanitizer! “A mix of smushed winter berries against a backdrop of sweet muted cinnamon.” It is sweet and so perfect for the season. I aso love that each bottle has a little bug inside!

Thoughts: This was such a great box. I love how they really bring you in to the season with the little touches of snowflakes. They also included a little jingle bell so it made that delightful Christmas sound before you even open. I really recommend trying out the box if you haven’t already. You get a great selection of products, plus the gift card. I can’t wait until the Spring box ships in February!

Uprising Botanicals Peace Love Soap Box Review – Soap Subscription Box

Uprising Botanicals is an indie company that makes handcrafted soaps and other body care products such as scrubs, balms, lotion and fragrances. You can also find candles, incense and even pillows on their website! They recently sent me their Scent of the Month box as well as their popular Peace, Love Soap box to review.

The Cost: $25 a month, plus shipping

The Products: Each Peave Love Soap box is jam packed with soap and other samples from Uprising Botanicals. Many of the scents and products are pre-releases subscribers get to test out before they are available to the general public. You can read my past Uprising Botanicals reviews here.

Pumpkin Spice Caramel Bar Soap – Value $6.50
Peppermint Cedarwood Bar Soap – Value $6.50

Both soaps are full-sized! I spent a lot of time testing out both soaps. I think they are both ultra-moisturizing. The Pumpkin Spice one is especially hydrating for your skin. Usually, I feel as though I need to use lotion after washing my hands or getting out of the shower because bar soap can be so drying. With these soaps, I actually felt more moisturized after using it. A few times I even forgot to put on lotion! My only concern is that the scents, especially for the Pumpkin Spice, are not very strong. I was hoping for a more intense scent that would be like a Fall dessert/aromatherapy feel that just was not present.

Ambrosia Salt Scrub – Value $5

This was the perfect exfoliator before my hair removal routine. The salt scrub did the job well without being too abrasive and left my skin soft and feeling moisturized.

Tangy Mint Lip Balm – Value $3
Cleanser – Value $5?

I love that this lip balm is vegan! They make the balm using Candelila wax instead of beeswax The scent was a mix of tangerine and mint which is a lovely combination, but like with the soap, did not have have a very strong scent. The mint was very present, but the tangerine was lost in the mix.

The cleanser works really well as a post-face wash cleaner. I liked using it after I’ve already washed my face, but there still hints of makeup I missed. Again, this product also had a very moisturizing effect after using it!

EucaMint Body Wash – Value $18

This was maybe my favorite product in the box! The scent was strong and you did not need too much of it to work up a decent lather. I love the Eucalyptus/Mint combination in the morning to help wake me up. I don’t see the EucaMint available on their website yet, but when it is, I will have to get a few bottles because it is my new favorite way to begin each day.

Thoughts: I was really impressed by the number of products you get and the fact that everything was full size! I do think some of the products, such as the bar soap and lip balm need a little bit of tweaking to get a more present scent, but other than that, everything was very great quality. If you are really into indie brands, this is definitely a subscription to try out.

Fortune Cookie Soap Fall Box Review 2013

The Fortune Cookie Soap Box is a quarterly subscription box that ships out their famed Fortune Cookie Soap as well a selection of their seasonal popular bath, skincare and home items – usually before they are even available for sale in their shop. I missed the cut-off date for their Summer box, so I made sure to join right away for the Autumn box!
The Cost: $19.99 a quarter, including shipping

The Products: Each quarter, you will receive seasonal soaps, bath and body products. Some boxes will also have a home product. Most of the products are new lines you get to sample before they are available to general sale.

The Shipping: Ships internationally, Canadian and international subscribers will incur additional shipping costs.

Before I even opened the box, I could smell strong scents of Autumn. I could not wait to open this box. As it turns out, they also included a cinnamon stick to accentuate the Autumn feel! Also included in each box was a $10 code to use in the store.

“Leeeaaf Piiile!!” Bath Fizzy
Wax Tart in Cranberry + Apple

The Leaf Pile bath fizzy is said to smell like apples and acorns. I definitely smell apples and it has a wood smell to it that I think may be the acorn. Either way, it is a very unique scent and I cannot wait to try it out.

The wax tart is fruity and very nice to smell – almost addictive! At first, I did not know what this product was and it looks like wax melts may be a new product for the company.

Indian Summer OCD Handsanitizer
Pick of the Patch Personal Space

What I like about the handsanitizer is that it does not have that overly traditional Autumn scent. Instead, it is a heavier, muskier scent that reminds me of Autumn dusk. It also does not dry out your hands the way most handsanitizers do.

The air freshener is amazing. It is the perfect way to make any room smell more like the fall holidays are fast approaching. It smells like pumpkins and spice, but not too spicy which is wonderful.

Fortune Cookie Soap in Autumn Daze
Milk Bath in You’re Insecure, Donut What For

I never tried any soap from Fortune Cookie Soap and was thrilled to get this in my box. It has notes of apple, cardamom and pecans and you can really smell each of the flavors and how they blend together. I love the pieces of leaf-shaped glitter.

The Milk Bath is delicious. I cannot wait to soak in the bath with this. It has a wonderful sweet cinnamon scent, with a hint of vanilla.

“I Yam What I Yam” Said the Marshmallow” Whipped Cream
Bath Oil in Insert Cookie Cutter Name Here

The body butter really nice. I love the way it left my skin and the scent was strong, without being overbearing. It is a wonderful blend of yam and marshmallow with noted of caramelized brown sugar – they were somehow able to capture the scent of yams baking in the oven.

The bath oil smells just like a home baked sugar cookie with the hunt of citrus. I love it. What makes this bath oil unlike others is that the oil actually self-disperses in the bath when you use it.

Thoughts: I am so happy with my Fall Fortune Cookie Soap box! I wish they sent out boxes more frequently because I am already craving another box. Since the most of the products are not yet released in the shop, I did not do a value breakdown, but I will once they are on sale. I can tell you that this box is definitely worth the price – especially considering I now have a $10 code to use in the store.
