Homegrown Collective Review June 2014

I’ve wanted to try Homegrown Collective for months. Finally, I decided I could not wait any longer and signed up for a three-month subscription. I was so thrilled when I got my first box in the mail.

homegrown collective review

The Product cards and DIYs. This month you could make hot or cold infused oil and balsamic vinegar or use your ingredients for a foot scrub.

homegrown collective review

The spices

I love that Homegrown Collective only sources local and organic herbs for their boxes.

homegrown collective review

The containers

I think the containers for the oil and vinegar are incredibly cute.

homegrown collective review

The extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar

Both taste incredible on their own. The oil has a nice sweet and floral note, while the vinegar has a wonderful tang to it.

homegrown collective review

The extras

I did not want to use the oil for the foot scrub, so I used the stone using my own ingredients I had at home. All the pieces are really nice quality and I will be able to keep them for ages.

Thoughts: I thought this was a great first box for me, especially since I live off extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar during the summer. I love that they provide different ways to use the ingredients, and two different ways to infuse the oil and vinegar, depending on your comfort level. I did not include values because the true value of this box rests in the project more than anything else. I can’t wait until I can get next month’s box! What do you think of Homegrown Collective?

Speak by Laurie Anderson – Retail Value $9.99

This is one of the few books where I’ve actually seen the movie before reading the book. I did enjoy the movie and am excited to get a chance to read the book. This is not the kind of book I typically would choose to read, but am glad to get a chance to enjoy. I did leave feedback indicating more specifically as to the type of books I really enjoy reading.

Bienfang Young Artists Sketchbook – Retail Value $6.18

My sister is really good at sketching, so this will make a great gift for her as this may be wasted on my stick figures.

General’s Charcoal Pencil 557-HB Hard – Retail Value $3.82

paper dots review

This was a sketch I found on the inside of the sketch book, I thought it was beautiful.

Thoughts: I really like the experience of getting a surprise book in the mail and I thought the extra gifts really fit with some of the themes in the book. I am really excited to start reading my book and to see what next month’s selection will be!

fancy subscription box

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Powder - Retail Value $21

I’ve only tried small samples of dry shampoo powder and it was interesting. I am excited to get a full-size bottle to really see how it works. I understand it helps to give you lots of volume (something I have too much of already), but the idea of a dry shampoo is so different for me that it is an even trade off for an in-between washing refresher. It smells nice, too!
fancy subscription box

Branch and Twig Assorted Colored Pencils - Retail Value $15

These colored pencils are so cool! I’ve seen them on Fancy, so it is really exciting to have them in person. I love that they are made from real tree branches and twigs because it adds to the uniqueness of the pencils. Of course, my daughter took the pencils and she had a blast coloring with them!
Fancy subscription box

Chalkboard Decals by Wallies – Retail Value $10

Chalkboard decals are the best. I was really happy to get this in my box. I love that you can easily remove the sheets and reposition them without damaging your walls.

fancy subscription box

Gold Lightening Studs by Amano Trading – Retail Value $22

These gold lightening studs are so adorable! I paired them with the cloud necklace from my Kelly Rowland Fancy box and got a lot of compliments on the look. This is my new favorite pair of studs to wear on the weekends.

fancy subscription box

Kinfolk Issue 11 – Retail Value $18

This book is focused on the home and includes articles about home renovations, recipes and interviews with renown chefs and designers. I only had a chance to flip through the book, but I can’t wait to sit down and take a deeper dive in what it has to offer.

Thoughts: The total value of the box was $86, which is right on target with the guaranteed minimum value of the box. I really liked the theme this month and we have a lot of new and unique favorite products because of it. I can’t wait to get next month’s Fancy box!

The Bouqs Review and Mother’s Day Special April 2014 – Flower Subscription Service

the bouqs review

Fresh flowers are the best way to brighten up a room. I always love getting new flowers to display around the house, which is why Spring is one of my favorite seasons (closely followed by Autumn!). When The Bouqs kindly offered me a bouquet to review from their concierge subscription service, I had to say yes!

the bouqs review

The Cost: $40 for one bouquet ($50 for 2 and $70 for 3) a month

The Products: Each month you will get a freshly cut bouquet of flowers. You can choose from flowers from the US, or from their Volcano collection in South America

The Concept: The concept behind The Bouqs is to provide you with fresh flowers for any occasion, or to simply have around the house.

Other Reviews: You can read my past The Bouqs reviews here.

Mother’s Day Deal: Get 2 dozen roses for $50 and get a $5 rebate (Guaranteed Mother’s Day delivery)

the bouqs review

I chose the Cotton Candy bouquet. It has pink Gerbera Daisies, Alstroemeria flowers, and Eryngium, Limonium, and Statice accents. I chose it because it has such a wide variety of flowers and gorgeous Spring-time colors. Just FYI, I got the double bouquet.

the bouqs review

My care for the flowers: I trimmed the ends and changed the water every other day. I kept them away from direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time.

the bouqs review

All the flowers lasted one week, after that, some of the flowers started to wilt. The daisies were the first to go, but my cat also loved to play with them, so that may have been a part of the problem as well. Two weeks later, the Alstroemeria flowers and Statice are the only ones left.

the bouqs review

Thoughts: I am always surprised at how incredibly beautiful the flowers look in person. Everything is super fresh when they are delivered and securely packed. Compared to most flowers you buy at the store, I feel as though the flowers from The Bouqs generally last longer (my roses lasted well over a month!).

Roobios Du Hammam

This tea is very fruity and fragrant. I was so excited to try this tea and found that I did not need a lot of sugar to sweeten this tea. Pair this with a scone before bed to the night night of sleep ever!

White Tea Champagne

I love the name of the tea. I like the idea of drinking “tea champagne.” This blend was also sweet and fruity, but still incredibly light. This has been the tea I drink when I first come in to work in the morning.

tea sparrow review coupon

Organic Masala Chai

I love chai. I used coconut milk in this tea and it was heavenly. I highly recommend it!

Cacao Tea

I was skeptical about this tea after my disappointment in my chocolate hazelnut tea in a different box. This was miles better, especially when paired with milk and honey as the pouch suggests, but when I want to drink something hot and chocolaty, I think I will stick to hot chocolate.

Thoughts: I really loved every single one of these teas. I found the flavors to be unique and I really liked the variety because there was something for everyone and if you are not much of a tea drinker, you may find you will like at least one of these teas.

This phone case is Light Up My Life. It would be a really cool case to use when going to a concert. I absolutely love the tie-in with the Kurt Cobain quote. Although I really like this case, I wouldn’t imagine myself using it any other time than going out.

phone case of the month

Thoughts: I still really love the concept of Phone Case of the Month and I love that there are only 200 of each print made. I do wish there was a way to rate our cases so we can be sent cases that fit our personality and style more. I cannot wait to see what other case I get next!

I love the themed photo and matching postcard with every box. It makes it a real treat opening the box.

Conscious box is always packed full of different samples. I always think of this box as a sample smorgasbord!

Eco Nuts – Value $3.69
Selina Naturally Celtic Sea Salt – Value $5

I’ve been wanting to try Eco Nuts since I first started using cloth diapers on my daughter and learned about them. They are actual nuts that have super-cleaning powers and leave no nasty chemicals behind.

As a food-lover, I really enjoy discovering new types of salt, so this was a welcomed product in the box. I love that it is full-sized too!

Elan Veda All Sinus – Value $0.50
Ultima Replenisher in Lemonaide – Value $1
Good nature Organice St. John’s Wort Tea – Value $0.50

At first, I was not sure that the vial was – it took a bit of investigation before I realized it was not actually perfume.

I have quite a bit of tea in my collection now, but none with St John’s wort which has a ton of medicinal properties, so I was really happy to try it out.

Flavrz Drink Mix in Superfruit Sports and Fruit Punch Energy- Value $2.60 for 2

I’ve been getting a lot of Flavrz in my boxes and I just love them! They are the best summer treat for me and my daughter!

I am not a huge fan of vanilla protein drinks, but I will at least give this one a try. You never know!
I love that they included drops to relieve your eyes from staring at a computer. I feel as though I spending of my life in front of a computer screen these days!

I love reusable anything! I went a little crazy with the cloth items when I began to cloth diaper my daughter, so the bamboo sheet fits right in my kitchen!
I was a little perplexed by the wooden spoon, but I suppose it will come in handy when I give my daughter a nice cold treat this summer.

I thought this was interesting nice heard of fruit and vegetable washes before, but never meat! I already used the kitchen cleanser and the fruit wash. I am still a little wary of the meat cleanser though.

I’ve had this Skout before in the last box. I liked it, but would have still preferred something else in the box. At least another flavor.
I seem to be growing quite a large lip balm collection. I really like that this actually is supposed to make a good lipstick base to longer wear.

Mineral Hygenics Coupon
True Natural Coupon

I appreciate that Conscious Box does not consider this as a part of the value for the box.

Thoughts: Overall, this was a pretty decent box! I got about $30 worth of samples, a lot of them I was very excited to get and everything will definitely be used. After receiving Conscious Box for three months now, I decided that although the samples are smaller, I do really enjoy and appreciate the variety that I get.

Do you get Conscious Box? What version do you get? What did you think about my July box?

Taste Trunk Healthy Box Review and Coupon July 2013 – Food Subscription Box

I really loved the presentation of the box. It has a touch of romanticism that I appreciate.

Inside the bag on top were the product cards. I really appreciate it when a company takes the time to explain more about the product and especially about the people who make the food.

I was so happy opening this box. I could not believe how much was in here!

I loved the variety. So far, we tried the darkest one which is a chocolate flavor.

Thoughtful Food Giddy Up & Go Granola Seriously Seedy – Value $1.50

My sister had the Notoriously Nutty and she said it was one of the best granolas she’s ever had. I cannot wait to try the Seriously Seedy granola!

San Franola Granola – Value $2.25
Nunes Farms Sweet Chipotle Almonds – Value $1
Nunes Farms California Crunchies in Maui Onion Almonds – Value $1

The San Franola was one of my favorite granola so far. Something about it reminded me of a gingerbread man. I think I will need to serve this at a Christmas party this year.

Both almonds were great. I loved the sweet, spicy contrast and the onion goodness of the almonds. They were addictive!

Thoughts: I received over $35 of products and everything was great! I loved my Taste Trunk. I think I will have to try the other boxes now to see how they all compare. My only note for them would be that although I loved every product, I could have done with a bit more variety – there seemed to be a lot of granola in this box.

Did you try Taste Trunk yet? Which box did you choose? If you did not sign up yet, don’t forget to use my coupon code for 25% off!
